20th Anniversary
Day of Action
On the 20th anniversary of the Bhopal disaster, December 3rd, 2004,
the
Minnesota chapter of the Association for India's Development held
several events to raise awareness and demand justice for the victims.
These included two street performances, one at the UM campus, the
other in downtown Minneapolis; a candlelight vigil on campus; a
screening of "Bhopal: The Search for Justice"; a lecture
and roundtable discussion with Dr. Elizabeth Guillette titled "Bhopal:
20 Years Later - A Continuing Disaster: Health Effects on the Second
Generation" (organized by the School of Public Health); and
an article in the student newspaper, the Minnesota Daily.
We also donated a copy of the book Trespass Against Us
and the documentary Twenty Years Without Justice to the
University of Minnesota library.

of Minnesota on Dec. 3rd. |
On Dec. 3rd, 2003, the 19th anniversary of the Bhopal disaster,
we at Minnesota started the evening with a candle light vigil. People
took turns reading poems and survivor testimonies.
The vigil was followed by the screening of the documentary, Seduction
of Dr. Loya. There was a discussion after the screening. The
discussion focused on actions that can be taken at the University
for raising awareness among students and faculty. There was a discussion
on whether the university's ethics policy is in line with accepting
research funding from Dow.
