Education

Many students – and many people in general – know very little about what happened in Bhopal. However when people learn about Bhopal and the chemical terror that continues there, many become outraged, and determined to support the cause of justice. Make sure that ongoing education is the foundation of all your efforts, and continues throughout any other campaigns you may undertake.

Use It Or Lose It: Shares in Dow

Does YOUR college or university own shares in Dow? Many do – nationwide, more than $110 million in Dow stock is owned by colleges and universities. If your school is one of them, they should use it or lose it – use it to support the Bhopal Shareholder’s Resolution or lose it through divestment.

Expel Dow from Your School!

While the people of Bhopal wallow in chemical sludge, Dow diligently continues to buy influence at colleges and universities across the country with giveaways that now total more than $60 million. Find out whether your university accepts funding from Dow; if so, tell your university to turn it down until Dow gets its priorities straight.

Don't Work for Dirty Dow!

Every year Dow recruits at colleges and universities across the country, sweeping up some of the brightest minds that schools and students have to offer. These new recruits may not understand what they’re getting into – they’re certainly not getting the full picture from Dow recruiters. Make sure they get it - and challenge Dow's ability to recruit by signing them up instead for the "Don't Work for Dirty Dow" pledge.

Dow Board of Directors

Dow’s Board of Directors is its ultimate decision-making body, and Dow Board members should be held accountable for the ongoing contamination of tens of thousands of Bhopal residents. If a Dow Board member lives nearby or has close ties with your university, they should be told - repeatedly and creatively - to end the chemical terror in Bhopal.

Pressure the Government of India

Carbide may have turned Bhopal into a gas chamber, but since then the Indian Government has played a leading role in the oppression of its own citizens. Today the Indian Government continues to deny such basic requests as the need for safe drinking water, free from Carbide’s poisons. Join the Bhopal survivors in demanding justice - and force the Government to take action.

City Council Resolutions

Has your City or Town Council passed a resolution in support of the Bhopal campaign? Probably not, but they should. Organize a campaign to put your City Council on the record in support of justice – and in favor of the basic human right to an environment free of chemical poisons.

Public Shareholder Activism

Your state (and perhaps your city as well) manages a pension fund for public employees, and it may be invested in Dow. Your city or state treasury may be as well. Find out – and if so, make sure that they use their shares to support the Bhopal Shareholder Resolution.

Fundraising

Money is always a nice thing to have, especially when you’re battling a $40 billion company. Funding is needed to support the international campaign, the Sambhavna Clinic in Bhopal, and essential development work for gas-affected communities. Host a benefit concert, a silent auction, or a community drive to support the struggle for justice in Bhopal.
