Petitioning and "RTS"
Actions
On December 3rd, 2003, students with the Johns Hopkins chapter
of the Association for India's Development talked about the campaign
and collected signatures for a petition to Dow. Many of the people
there later attended the screening of "Hunting Warren Anderson"
that AID-College Park hosted on the 4th of December.
On Dec 3rd evening, several of us went to the Watergate, the residence
of one of the Dow directors - Barbara Franklin. She had gone for
a dinner at the White House and had instructed the security *NOT*
to accept anything from us. When we showed that it was just a label
saying *DO NOT DRINK THE WATER*, the security refused to accept
it. The security also refused to accept
a letter from us, they told us that we need to give it to her
personally.
Later in the evening, a few of us drove up to another director's
house - Paul Stern. Half a mile driveway literally (quarter mile
is better approximation I guess), every 50 feet with motion detector
lamps and to scare Khushi - Dogs Beware sign. He was also out for
dinner. Nevertheless we left a message that we would be back.

Earth Day Awareness
On April 22, 2006, AID JHU set up a table as part of the Baltimore
Green Week eco-festival to talk about Bhopal and generate support.
In the morning, the rainwaters did all the splashing :-(
In the afternoon, we made a splash ;-)
Morning: It was WET. It was WINDY. Our booth was DRIPPING ...
we had a tough time keeping our poster-board pictures and flyers,
etc dry…
Afternoon: The rain stopped. Quite a few people showed up (I
was surprised by the turnout on such a day). Our booth location
was just great ... it was right in front of the bay and next to
a Whole Foods booth, who were giving out FREE bananas <am not
kidding!!> .. and there was this cookie booth - they later came
with their guitars to sing "We made the cookies. But we didnt
kill the enzymes" ;-) <well ... this particular song is
fictional, the concept is Arjun's, the lyrics are mine, the tune
is Eric Clapton's ... but anyway, that was their USP>
Our booth banner said "No More Bhopals" ... well
many had heard about Bhopal, but a few showed up and asked us, "So,
what’s a Bhopal?" :-) ...infact many even heard about
AID (which made me even more surprised!)
Well .. thats how it went .. the weather sucked big time, but
nevertheless we went home satisfied :-)
