Survivors Tell Students of Chemical Terror

On Tuesday May 11th, 2004, Goldman Environmental Prize winners Rashida Bee and Champa Devi Shukla talked with students and faculty at Delta College about the Bhopal disaster and the chemical terror that they'd both lived through. About 40 students attended the discussion, which also included Satinath Sarangi of the Sambhavna Trust and Ryan Bodanyi, the Student Coordinator of the International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal. Following the discussion, more than a dozen students promised to learn more about the disaster and possibly contribute to the campaign, and several stayed back to talk with the survivors and ask them questions.

"Flames Not Flowers" Bhopal Photo Exhibit

On Monday May 10th, "Flames Not Flowers," a photo exhibit about the Bhopal disaster, went on display at delta College. The exhibit, which lasted for more than a month, included photographs by world-famous Indian photographer Raghu Rai, taken in the days after the disaster, and by Maude Dorr, a writer and photographer who visited Bhopal in 2003. The exhibit was placed in one of the highest-trafficked areas on campus, so though it's impossible to say for sure how many people saw the exhibit, it's probably close to several hundred.

WE ALL LIVE IN BHOPAL

"The year 2003 was a special year in the history of the campaign for justice in Bhopal. It was the year when student and youth supporters from at least 30 campuses in the US and India took action against Dow Chemical or in support of the demands of the Bhopal survivors. As we enter the 20th year of the unfolding Bhopal disaster, we can, with your support, convey to Dow Chemical that the fight for justice in Bhopal is getting stronger and will continue till justice is done. We look forward to your continued support and good wishes, and hope that our joint struggle will pave the way for a just world free of the abuse of corporate power."
