Trains

Saturday, 20 August 2011

German trains are amazing. Which has nothing to do with the beauty of the Dresden train station per se, but here it is nonetheless:

Beautiful

The German train system is so well-organized, they can tell you days in advance the track your train will arrive at. And not only that; they can tell you where on the platform you should stand so that you can step right on to the right car.

…And organized

Here’s a look at the restaurant car on the train to Amsterdam.

Not too shabby. Sadly, the same couldn’t be said for my shoes:

Flea

Saturday, 20 August 2011

It just so happened that I was in Dresden on a Saturday, which was Flea Market day!

I thought about buying this table and taking it home in my carry-on, but then I looked closer, and realized that I wasn’t the biggest fan of the color.

Church

Saturday, 20 August 2011

This church still lacks the roof it lost in the fires of 1945. But it’s been turned into an outdoor performance venue and neighborhood center, complete with stage and concessions stand:

Backyard

Saturday, 20 August 2011

Some people have grass in their backyards; some people have swings; some people, especially if they live in the city, have no backyards at all. These folks have a private petting zoo:

I’d say, “Sucks to be zoo,” but I don’t actually think it does.
