Cathedral

The main cathedral in Malaga was constructed between 1528 and 1782, and it’s famous because it’s incomplete – only one of its two spires were finished before the funding ran out, and the other was left as a rump. Here’s a few shots of the place:

Cathedral

Saturday, 30 July 2011

The Barcelona Cathedral is no longer the most famous cathedral in Barcelona – that honor now goes to the Sagrada Familia, designed by Gaudi, which is still under construction. But the Barcelona Cathedral is certainly beautiful in its own right, even if its facade is marred by some restoration at the moment:

The Cathedral, like most cathedrals, took some time to build; it was mostly constructed from the 13th through the 15th centuries. Mostly. It has some modern additions:

That said, the interior is breathtaking. Here’s the nave:

If a view like this doesn’t inspire the awe of God – and his pious earthly craftsmen – I don’t know what would:

But I spent most of my time looking up. Its architecture reminds me of Los Jeronimos in Lisbon, one of my favorite cathedrals, and an astonishingly, mesmerizingly beautiful place.

And, my other favorite part, the cloister:
