The Kozel especially. Yum!

Good beer is worth it.

On my first evening in Amsterdam I walked around in a daze. First because of the astounding beauty of the place – canals are everywhere, and although I’ve been to Venice and I readily concede that Venice is the shizzazzlepop, Amsterdam struck me – accustomed as I am to temperate climes – as far more beautiful. The weather when I was there was consistently in the pleasant 70s, overcast with occasional rain, and somehow the architecture, all those trees, and the weather all reminded me of home. A far more beautiful home, riven through with canals you can sit and have a beer on as the boats go by:

A great place for a beer

The other cause of my daze was the prices, which were astronomical. As in, a sign fully listing all the zeroes would reach the stars. The Netherlands is in the Eurozone, so prices were often dually listed in euros and in the percentage of your soul you’d have to sacrifice. The beer above cost me two-tenths of my soul. It was a good beer, though.
